Milk Carton Haunted House

We’re always on the lookout for clever ways to upcycle our packaging, so when Clover receptionist Lorena Valencia showed us her DIY haunted house project made from Clover Milk cartons we couldn’t resist sharing!

This bewitching, kid-friendly craft is sure to be a favorite decorating piece for Halloween. Let your imagination run wild by personalizing it with your own spooky creative touches. It’s Clo-lossal fun for all!

YOU WILL NEED:

  • 1 CLEAN half-gallon Clover milk carton
  • Black and yellow construction paper
  • Miscellaneous Halloween stickers (scrapbooking stickers work great!)
  • Scissors
  • Clear packing tape and/or glue roller

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut off the top of the milk carton just below the fold where it forms the spout. This will be the base of your “house”.
  2. Cut a piece of yellow construction paper the height of the carton and fold around the house to cover. Tape or glue in place.
  3. Cut a second piece of black paper and fold around the house over the yellow paper, but do not secure. (Note: You will have two layers of paper; yellow on the inside and black on the outside). Draw a door opening and several window openings on the black paper.
  4. Remove the black paper and cut the door and window openings on (3) sides, leaving one side as a “hinge” that will open and close (see photo). Now secure the black paper with cut outs over the yellow paper. The yellow will show through the door and windows like light coming from the inside of the house.
  5. Open the door and windows and put a Halloween sticker inside each (or use your imagination to create whatever you like).
  6. Cut a roof shape from more black construction paper, crease in the center to form a peak, and glue to the top of the house.
  7. Add finish detail to the exterior of the house with craft sparkle glue (note the “shingles” on the roof, and window borders in the photo).
  8. Use your imagination and have fun! You can create a row of different sized haunted houses using pint & quart Clover milk cartons. Line them up on a sturdy piece of black foam core board (available at craft stores). Make chimneys out of more construction paper, a candy-corn path, or add tombstones made from thick black foam. The possibilities are endless!
